BBC PRESS RELEASE: BEING HUMAN DOCUMENTARY ANNOUNCED

Celebrating the success of Being Human, BBC Three has commissioned a one-hour special documentary to give fans another taste of all things human and otherwise, on Saturday 28 March at 9.15pm.

Unearthed will take the audience on a unique behind-the-scenes tour to meet many of the actors who play the much-loved characters from the series including Aidan Turner (Mitchell), Russell Tovey (George), Lenora Crichlow (Annie), Jason Watkins (Herrick), Annabel Scholey (Lauren) and Sinead Keenan (Nina).

Unearthed is unmissable viewing for anyone who loves Being Human.

The documentary will also feature interviews with series creator and writer Toby Whithouse and will be followed by the first three episodes of the first series.

The concluding episodes of series one will be shown the following Saturday.

Recently re-commissioned for a second series of eight episodes, Being Human has proved a huge hit with the BBC Three audience. It has enjoyed multi-platform success and the next series is eagerly awaited by fans and critics alike.

UK Broadcast Ratings For Being Human Episodes 4, 5 and 6

According to final figures from BARB (Broadcasters' Audience Research Board LTD), the final three episodes of Being Human series 1 performed as follows:


Episode 4: 815,000 viewers (656,000 prelim, 3.0%)
#4 show on BBC3 for the week ending February 15th, 2009
For comparison during the same time slot: Lost 1.180M, Supernatural 636k

Episode 5: 797,000 viewers (578k prelim, 2.5%)
#5 show on BBC3 for the week ending February 22nd, 2009
For comparison during the same time slot: Lost 1.220M, Supernatural 583k

Episode 6: 1,086,000 viewers (822k prelim, 3.5%)
#2 show on BBC3 for the week ending March 1st, 2009

Being Human recommission announced – BBC Three hit drama to return for an eight-part series

Being Human, the critically acclaimed hit BBC Three drama, chronicling the somewhat complicated lives of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living in modern-day Bristol, made by Touchpaper Television, part of the RDF Media Group, has been recommissioned for another eight-part series.

The eagerly awaited current series, which followed a much-loved pilot of the twenty-something drama, concludes this Sunday 1 March.

Starring Russell Tovey (Little Dorrit, Doctor Who, The History Boys) Lenora Crichlow (Sugar Rush, Doctor Who) and Aidan Turner (The Clinic), Being Human attracted a high of over one million viewers and rave reviews.

Being Human has also enjoyed multiplatform success, being the most watched programme on BBC iPlayer for its first two episodes, as well becoming one of the best performing BBC websites.

Danny Cohen, Controller BBC Three, says: "I'm thrilled that we are recommissioning Being Human. It's hugely popular with young viewers and earned great critical acclaim at the same time.

"It's also a very important staging-post in the successful development of home-grown young drama on BBC Three."

Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning, added: "I am very excited Being Human is returning for a second series.
